We must all work together to end gender-based violence.
The Rose Campaign.
The Rose Campaign is a national advocacy campaign to end violence against women and girls. Every year, from November 25 to December 10, the YWCA Canada Rose Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Girls brings to light what we can all do to make their lives safer. The Rose Campaign takes its name from the original Rose button, created 27 years ago to commemorate 14 young women who were murdered at l’Ecole Polytechnique, by calling for action on violence against women and promoting strategies to stop violence in our communities.
How you can take action to end Gender-Based Violence:
LEARN MORE during the 16 Days of Activism
Every year, people around the world observe the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which run from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) through December 10 (World Human Rights Day). In Canada, we also observe the National Day of Remembrance and Action Against Violence Against Women, which honours the women who died in the horrific mass shooting at Polytechnique Montréal on December 6, 1989.
The 16 Days of Activism began in 1991 with activists at the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute. It is a chance for Canadians and others around the world to come together to speak out against gender-based violence and to reiterate our pledge to ending violence against women, girls, LGBTQ2 (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Two Spirit), and gender-diverse individuals.
